Proficiency/Merit Badges

One of the objectives of Senbukan 先武館 Karate is simply to have fun. Thus we have accepted the idea of Cloth Proficiency or Merit Badges whereby junior members can be assessed and awarded for separate ‘tests’ many of which can be obtained prior to their first grading.

They are sewn onto the arm of your karate suit. If you would like to be assessed for a badge just ask one of your instructors.

As a member of the Club, Merit badges can be earned by you and are Awarded for ;-

       Attendance: 
       One for each year of your training

Sit Ups: 
Correctly performing sit ups (10 for Minors, 15 for Juniors).

      Balancing: 
      Balancing for 1 minute on each leg. 

---

Press Ups: 
Correctly performing press ups (5 for Minors, 10 for Juniors). 

---

Splits: 
Performing the splits. 

---

        Blocking: 
        Correctly naming 4 out of 5 demonstrated blocks. 

---

        Punching: 
        Correctly naming 4 out 0f 5 hand attacks. 

---

       Good Behaviour: 
       Consistent good behaviour (an example to others). 

---

       First 3 Katas: 
       Correctly performing the first 3 Kata forms. 
       Taikyoku Shodan,Nidan and Sandan

       Heian Nidan: 
       Correctly performing Heian Nidan
       (2nd Heian Kata). 

---

      Heian Yodan: 
      Correctly performing Heian Yodan
      (4th Heian Kata).

 Tying Your Belt: 
 Correctly tying your belt. 

---

         Kicking: 
         Correctly naming 4 out of 5 demonstrated kicks. 

---

         Posture: 
         Correctly naming 4 out of 4 postures.

        Heian Shodan: 
        Correctly performing Heian Shodan
        (1st Heian Kata).

        Heian Sandan: 
        Correctly performing Heian Sandan
        (3rd Heian Kata).

   Heian Godan: 
   Correctly performing Heian Godan
   (5th Heian Kata).
